"Ergomania" I found this on my computer today and think its kinda interesting

I wrote this around Christmas 08. I literally had gone outside once or twice that month, because we were under such strict deadlines with our movie. I felt warped. Never doing that again.

"
Today I went outside for the first time in a week. It was refreshing. I went out to get the mail, I've been expecting a check for weeks. Nothing was there but a poorly designed ad for some local show, band or something...i don't remember much. How could I focus on any words, staring into that hideous neon pink paper. As I stood, the screaming sirens of a fire truck rang into my ears. In a flash they pulled into my complex and ran inside. I was baffled thinking "There's no fire here...". Just then my attention was shifted as the door of my apartment blew from its hinges carrying me into the street. "Well that was exciting" I thought as I attempted to move my legs, with no success. My initial reaction was to laugh...So i did. And out came a quick chuckle accompanied by, I'd guess, at least 2 fluid ounces of blood.

I had been numbed by the tedious repetition that had consumed my life for months. Sitting, staring, constantly contributing to carpel tunnel and metacarpal boss. With no help from the bilateral ganglionic cysts that plagued my hands to begin with.

Numb. My mind constantly forced to observe without feeling... Completely numb.

So as I lye, stuck in my mangled body, twisted and turned in a puddle of blood. My eyes affixed to my burning home. I routinely imagine my cursor cruising into view, moving things around, adjusting the size and hue of the flames, that continue to destroy my lively hood. For this moment, I can scrub through the timeline of life, re-living my liberating plunge to the street, and seeing myself quickly wither away as everything fades to black.

Enjoying Life.

The last week and a half has been good. Really good.
Last Thursday Colleen flew in. We spent the weekend together.
Unfortunately I had to work Friday morning, Saturday night and she had a dance workshop Saturday. Fortunately i was working at a sweet place called Celluloid Heroes in Burbank training 2.5D animation in After Effects and working on a sweet animated shot, while she was dancing like an awesome crazy woman! Exactly what we both want to be doing. So we cant complain. We hung out each day making/eating food, swimming in the pool, fighting some waves on the beach, and completing our big goal for the weekend...Buy a bed! Which is completely amazing!
Just as we started getting awesome she had to fly back to MI. Luckily she will be back in just 3 weeks, and shortly after she'll be moving in!

This week, I've been thoroughly enjoying myself. Working in the mornings, swimming in the afternoon, and working on my own projects in the evening. Our film, The Stevie Wondershow has two more screenings set up. It is showing next at FORECASTLE ARTS FESTIVAL on July 10th! It is also showing out here at the BUNGALOW CLUB in LA on Sept 14th!

We have been brainstorming and have lots of SEXY NEW IDEAS for films. I am excited to start producing some of them over the next few months. We are working heavily on completing the STEVIE WONDERSHOW right now and getting our DVD packages together.

Check out a friend of mine's project called OPTION 5! Its a Feature film experience. They are having different film-making crews, write, shoot and direct several segments of the film. Each will all be consistent with the story and make up the final film.

Definitely check out the site for more info. Very creative idea!

Movies Galore

I've been watching a lot of movies/shows lately. Keeping pretty consistent.

In the past week or so Ive watched:

-Summer Heights High (had seen, but is never a bad choice!)
-Ninja Death I & II (part of our Kung Fu night)
-Synecdoche New York (saw in theaters, but I fall asleep to every night)
-Primer (Sundance 04 winner. Shot on $7000. Amazing film)
-Burn After Reading (Hadn't seen. Enjoyable. I dig Coen's humor.)
-The Graduate (Been wanting to see for years. Finally. Great great film!!)
-Milk (Powerful movie. Sean Penn is fantastic. Gus Van Sant is remarkable)
-Arrested Development (Been an idiot because id never seen an episode. Thats changed)
-Tiger Love (Top 10 most ridiculous films ive ever seen. Wow...)

This month I'll watch:

-Life Is Beautiful
-No Country for Old Men
-Trainspotting
-Be Kind Rewind
-Sunset Boulevard
-The Last King of Scotland
-Doubt

+ MORE! ha

I am excited. These are some of the movies Ive been wanting to see for awhile but just never had the chance to. I've also made a list of every film in AFI's top 100 that I haven't seen yet. Which includes about 50-60 films. So it'll take a little while, but i feel they are important to see

Give me 6 months.

Im also very excited today because my lady, Colleen, will be here tomorrow evening until sunday! woooooo!! pumped! We have been together over 2 years and have not lived in the same city once.
And over that two years I :
  • worked in freelance in iowa
  • produced, shot and edited a feature film
  • moved to albuquerque, nm
  • and moved to los angeles
All while she was :
  • going to school full time
  • went to europe for a summer
  • graduated from college
  • and moved across the state.
But in a month from now, she is moving out to California. To live together. We decided we wanted to move here in January and now we are!! Which is good good news. She will be out here a twice befre she drives out, for a few auditions. She is an amazing dancer. Expect to see some sweet videos of her dancing in a few months!

Id like for you to check out the trailer to Jack Major's first feature film called CONTRARY EUPHORIA! He's a good friend of ours and is brilliant. Enjoy.

Thats about it!
Have a delightful day.

Making Progress

Ive been busy getting settled in out here, and getting everything in order. When i first got here (2 weeks ago today) I set two goals for myself to achieve before over the weekend before Mike and Andrew arrived. One - Find a Job .. Two - Find a place to live .. See, i needed number one to get to number two..(because im consistent with my money situation of not having any)

Luckily, i got hired at the second place applied...Walgreens. Which helped us get into our sweet ass apartment..since none of us had a job moving out here. Its funny because, when i moved to Albuquerque last year, i did the same thing, and got hired at Walgreens after 2 days of being there...and never finished training because i got hired doing VFX work. So Im hoping a similar thing will happen this time around as well. haha. So we moved into our apartment over a week ago in North Hollywood. We love it. Its a really nice place...big windows all over, brandnew carpet/floors, appliances and bathrooms. DIG DIG DIG.

So know that we are settled in, and have a little income, Im focusing on getting some stuff done. Mike, Andrew and I just made a huge list of things we need to get together/make for The Stevie Wondershow DVD we plan to release this fall.
____________

A friend of mine edited a film (among other positions) called "The Last Hurrah" that had its world premiere a few days ago at the Dances With Film Festival in Hollywood. I was fortunate enough to be there for it, and i was not disappointed. Peep the strategy!

Its a very witty, charming and technically great film. Look for it!

Archived Cam Test - 04/03/08

I was looking through all sorts of old videos and tests and things and came across this video, from over a year ago. We shot this the day we got our Redrock adapter for our HVX, using an old 50mm nikon. It was the nicest day in months, the sun was shining and we finally had all the equipment we had been dreaming of for years. So as a test, we went outside and rolled on Me and roomate, at the time, Ryan Falcheck...it features sunshine/a great ball/and some suburb(?) dancing by meeee...Enjoy

The music is by Mason Proper (really great band from MI. Check them out!)

I also, while wasting a few minutes in a blockbuster, bought a few movies.
  1. Synecdoche New York
  2. Burn After Reading
  3. The Wrestler
#1 is amazing! One of the most original films i have ever seen. Its definitely an experience. Charlie Kaufman knows how to tell a story like no other.
#2, I haven't seen yet, but have heard some good things.
#3 was one of my favorite films of last year. I didnt have too many expectations. I have always liked Aronofsky films, so i figured it would be alright. It is a great film.

Have you seen any of these 3? What did you think?

Goodnight.

Took a chance on a big jet plane..

I arrived at LAX Thursday night at 9. My friend Chris (Stevie in the STEVIE WONDERSHOW) picked me up with a slew of friendly faces in the vehicle. Friday morning I woke up at 7 and began setting up apartments to check out throughout the day. I was out of the house by 9 and managed to view 5 places before 1:30. My two goals by Monday are:
  1. Find a place for me, Colleen, Mike and Andrew to live
  2. Find a job, anywhere, that will enable us to get into an apartment
Ive found some pretty sweet places so far. But its hard to commit to a place before anyone else gets here to check it out. Luckily. Mike and Andrew will be driving out from Albuquerque in the morning and will be here in the evening.

Today, im going to finish a website for my parents restaurant, like i said i was going to be this weekend. When i was back in Michigan I had andrew come over and take some sweet pictures of the food. With the payment of deliciousness in his mouth. Fortunately for me, he had just ate dinner before he came over. So when he was done, Colleen and I got to split several meals.

Chicken Tuscany, Salmon (left), Cherry Chicken Pasta, Lamb & Shrimp Cocktail. This is why I love going back to Michigan. Delicous free food constantly.

So if you are ever in Marine City, MI or in that area. You need to definitely check out The Little Bar. Easily the best food in a 20 mile radius!

So the next few days will be very eventful as Andrew and Mike arrive, and we get settled someplace and start to get awesome. We have lots of new ideas that we plan to pursue over the next few months. Episodic feel good films, music videos, commercials, and more fun stuff!

TODAY I want everyone to check out a film called 'Colin'. It showed at Cannes this year and has been getting great reviews. Its a zombie flick from the perspective of a zombie named Colin, shot on $72.

I am not a horror fan at all. But this film seems way more intelligent and original then most, and is a remarkable achievement for the writter/director. I cannot wait to see it.

Organized Chaos

For the past 4 years I haven't lived in one place for more than 6 months. I often have this feeling that makes it difficult to be productive. I never can get into a routine, that allows me to be more efficient. By the time I do, I'm ready to pack my stuff and head off someplace else. I always say things i want to do on a regular basis, and integrate into my daily routine...but i don't have a routine to begin with. So i forget about it and say "When i settle someplace, ill be able to do that...". But sometimes i think if I actually will do it...or if I'm just making excuses for not doing certain things.

I will find out. I will be in LA this Thursday and plan on staying there for a few years. We will see. I want to exercise more and build some muscle where i lost it in my shoulders after i broke my body several years ago. Need consistency.

I want you to check out a song/video i like. Reminds me of 'Goodness'.
